How should someone get a GF?

I'm really curious about how someone should get into a relationship.
I've had one but, that started out pretty weird. I went to a house-party and she puked into my hands. After a few weeks, I text'd her if she wants to eat something together, she said yes and everything was going nicely. After a few months of dating we grew into a healthy relationship. But I only consider it to be pure of luck that the things went this way
Are there any tips or things, one could do increase the chance of being in a relationship? I feel like finding someone you can love, share most things, trust and live your life with play a very important part of a persons life(Unless you have a mental disabilities),
hence why I'm trying to get one, like I did. For me having empty, emotion and affection-less sex means nothing anymore. I've done that so many times, it' have became more of a nuisance than anything at all.
